Old Business

Cathy McMorris Rodgers held a meeting in the Center thanks to ongoing contacts with the Congresswoman’s office. Kristie was pleased to address the library’s concerns about the proposed elimination of the Institute for Museum and Library services during that meeting.

Funding for the Center update: The Steigers donated $4,000, INB donated $1000 in honor of Jon Kehne’s retirement from the bank and a grant was received in the amount of $100,000 from the .09 Economic Development Fund. This means we can complete the restrooms, the TEK center, signage, and a safer back entrance.

May 19th at 11:00 am is the court date for the suit concerning the faulty construction job issues. A number of Friends expressed a desire to attend.

New Business

President’s report: Participants of the recent road trip to the Garfield, Oakesdale and Malden libraries shared their observations. The librarians received high praise for their energetic enthusiasm as branch managers. The Colfax branch was also praised for always being available for help in any and all ways. A trip may be planned again in the fall to visit more branches.

The FOL was asked to sponsor a yearly ad in the Gazette to list Memorials. Polly Anderson moved that up to $500.00 be provided for the ad, Becky Lawhead seconded the motion and the measure passed.

Molly Overby requested $20.00 to buy crocheting supplies. Cheryl Jones made the motion, Becky Lawhead seconded it and the motion passed.

Mary Ann Mitchell made a motion to provide $275.00 for the fair booth, Becky Lawhead seconded it and the motion passed.

Atol Lillard and her therapy dog Chesso from Endicott are the supporter of the Month for May.

The Arts Council and the FOL are sponsoring the May 25th Banner event to be held in the Center from 6:30-8:30 with the presentation at 7 p.m. The friends were asked to provide treats if interested.

There is an opening for the Garfield branch manager. Interviews will be taking place for this opening. Nicole shared about upcoming events such as the penny drive, coding camps and the TEK center. Kristie told the group about many of the upcoming programs and activities. A grant has also been applied for E-readers for senior citizens. The June FOL meeting will begin with a 30 minute “public” presentation in the TEK Center followed by an abbreviated business meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 a.m.

Respectfully submitted, Debi Hergert
