Friends of Whitman County Library
Meeting Minutes
April 03, 2018

In attendance: Kristie Kirkpatrick, Mikki Tague, Mary Ann Mitchell, Polly Anderson, Velma Ulrich, Wanda Alderman, Shirley Cornelius, Sheri Miller, Becky Lawhead, Sue Hallett, Debi Hergert

The meeting was called to order by President Sue Hallett at 11:00 a.m. The March minutes were read and approved as read.

A note from Lloyd and Colleen Dechene was shared thanking the library for all of their hard work. They had attended Bingo in St. John.

Shirley presented the treasurer’s report. Highlights included $4,771.00 from a variety of donations and Gary and Trudy Libey’s donation of $104,000 in stocks.

Old Business

Picnic in Style raised $4900.00 for the WCL’s children’s technology programs.

Possible uses for the Libey’s donation include payment for the roof repair, window blinds, sound tiles, computer tables, a picture hanging system and possibly paving the parking lot behind the library.

Kristie shared possible local projects the Robert Osborne estate may fund. Most likely is 2 scholarships for Colfax students; one would benefit a student in the performing arts or music and the other for a top all around student. The other project may be an exhibit in The Center.

Rural Heritage is producing a plaque to honor Edie Ray and her family will pose for a photo and news release on May 24. Edie will likely be honored more publicly at a later date.

An Otto Stevens photography brochure will be printed at a cost of $600.00 to the Friends. This is the same amount his donated photos contributed to Friends of WCL.

New Business

Sue shared the details of the Road trip set for Wed. May 9th. The group will visit the Albion branch, the Serenity House in Pullman, and the Colton and Uniontown branches. The May supporter of the month will be presented during the trip.

The April supporters on the Month are the voters of Whitman County, the anonymous donors and all volunteers to the library.

A new branch manager has been hired for the Malden branch.

Sheri asked the Friends for $1745.00 to be used for the summer adult and children’s reading programs with the theme “Library’s Rock”. Wanda made the motion, Polly seconded it and the motion carried.

Kristie shared upcoming events for the month of April.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m.

Respectively submitted,

Debi Hergert
