What's happening at the Colfax Branch Library
for the week of September 27, 2012

Meet the Artist returns with a number of talented local quilters from the Whitman Samplers on Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m. in the Colfax Library. Join Charlie Hochsprung, Judy Imler and others as they share their tricks and secrets for creating amazing quilts. In celebration to Hullabaloo, the Colfax Library has extended it hours for Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will host a quilt show in the Norma McGregor room; Slinky the Clown and his famous balloon animals from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. along with Marcy Campbell sharing her popular “Rosie” books; and a Wii Tournament for ages 18 and younger. The Friends of the Library will also host a book sale on the main floor of the library. Fun educational classes for young children are each Thursday in the Colfax Library with Baby Time at 10:10 a.m., Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m. and Preschool Time 11 a.m. Play and Learn classes are a more interactive version that includes parents and caregivers in the child’s learning experience each Friday from 10-11:30 a.m.

The thirtieth anniversary of Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted banning of books across the United States.
