Fall 2017 classes in Colfax from Community Colleges of Spokane

The Colfax Library announces a new line-up of community enrichment classes thanks to Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) and ACT 2 programming. Attendees are encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid class cancellations at 509-279-6030.

“Introduction to Ukulele: Plus” returns with popular instructor Scott Hallett. The class is Wednesday evenings, October 11 – November 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at a cost of $17. This class is for absolute beginners, as well as those who have taken the previous introduction to ukulele or ukulele plus classes or already know simple chords.

Photo:  Rally in Colfax, WA celebrationg WW I armistice sogning“The Palouse and World War One” will be held Thursday mornings, October 12 – November 9, from 9:30 a.m. to noon this class is just $35. The Palouse played an important role in the First World War, even before the U.S. entered the conflict in April 1917. Discover how the area prepared, as America geared up to fight The War to End All Wars. Southeast Washington changed overnight, with women entering the workforce, food rationing, Victory Gardens, a universal draft, censorship, and the search for spies and subversives. Especially important, was the need to protect from sabotage the local production of wheat, timber, and minerals - all essential components of the war effort. Using original sources learn how the Palouse region responded to major social changes as the war raged in Europe.

The final CCS class for fall is Mosaic Sculpture which is the art of assembling small pieces of tile, broken glass or other materials into patterns and images. That class is Saturday, October 21 from 10:30am to 5:30 p.m. at a cost of $20
