Endicott renovation complete

After more than two years of fundraising, 11 months of operating from the city hall and nearly 4 months of construction the Endicott Branch of Whitman County Library is open for business at 324 E Street. Library hours are Tuesdays 1-5 p.m., Fridays 9-2 p.m. with preschool storytime each Friday at 10 a.m.
Thanks to funding from The United States Department of Agriculture, Inland Northwest Community Foundation, Avista and many local contributions, the $130,000 project is nearly complete. The renovation removed harmful toxins, brought the facility into ADA compliance and gave the library a much-needed facelift.
The project ran into a major roadblock last summer when a $30,000 parking pad was required to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Officials had initially been advised that the existing parking met accessibility codes. As a result of the unexpected modification, a number of items had to be cut from the library’s renovation plan and an additional $15,000 had to be secured.
Items that were cut from initial plan include a sink area for children’s and community programming, attractive exterior finishes and signage. To help fund these items, the Friends of the Endicott Library are holding a number of fundraising activities including a silent auction and a raffle. Prizes range from homemade pies to an overnight golf package. Residents from across the county are encouraged to the library to participate.
A grand re-opening and community celebration is set for Thursday, May 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the Endicott Library. The ceremony is set for 6 p.m. featuring recognition of donors, refreshments, and the announcement of the winners of the silent auction and raffle.
