The Age of the Fighting Sail, a Naval History

“The Age of the Fighting Sail, a Naval History” presented by Gonzaga history professor Steve Balzarini comes to the Colfax Library in a two part series on Wednesdays, March 15 and 22 from 6:30-7:45. Early registration is suggested as Professor Balzarini’s classes are popular and fill quickly.

In Age of the Fighting Sail, Steve reviews the nature and conduct of naval warfare during the Revolution and Napoleonic Age. He’ll focus on the leadership of the British Royal Nave, the tactics of ship to ship engagement, the overall British strategy in the wars against the French and the life of the ordinary seaman aboard a British warship during this period. Explore the life and career of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and his role as leadership model and the vehicle for change it the Royal Navy during this period.
