Whitman County Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
November 20, 2007
Present: Becky Dickerson, Leslee Miller, Jon Kehne, John
Aune, Peggy Bryan, and Kristie Kirkpatrick.
Jon Kehne, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:02.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed. Becky
Dickerson made to accept the minutes, Leslee Miller seconded and
the motion carried.
Peggy reviewed the Financial Reports; Budget Report through
October 31, 2007, November Vouchers and Account Balances
Reports. She reviewed November vouchers #8876-8931 totaling
$27,927.08. Board members signed to authorize payment.
Becky inquired what cost of the newsletter was per household
and Leslee shared a company she has used for similar projects.
Library staff will meet with Sabrina Jones and investigate
cheaper production and mailing options.
Kristie thanked Becky Dickerson for assisting with the press
release portion of the regional Branch Workshops in October.
Kristie reviewed circulation reports for October, noting that
overall circulation was up 905 from the previous year. Branches
that had increases were Albion, Endicott, LaCrosse, Oakesdale
& Tekoa. There was no report on the database uses for this
month, as there are problems with the Bridges reports. Ask Us
24/7 usage was busy with 132 users for the month.
Kristie reported on phone calls and contacts made regarding
the elevator and Hamilton projects. She will continue to work on
the project and keep the board informed.
Peggy presented the Friends of WCL membership list, with
fifteen new members.
Kristie announced that Elizabeth Gordon was honored as the
supporter of the month for November. John Aune traveled LaCrosse
with Kristie, Peggy, Jack & Virginia Pittman to present the
award to her family, Jon and Arlene Gordon in her memory
Kristie announced that Kathy Schluneger named the library in
her will. The impact to the library is not yet clear. Kristie
will pass on details as they become available.
The library supporter of the month for December will be First
Step Internet for providing free Internet in Colfax since 1995.
A presentation will be made to them during the Winter Luncheon
on December 12.
Kristie reported on her "Little Library That Could"
presentations to Ohio Libraries.
Kristie announced that Angela Smeltz was recently hired as
Colton/Uniontown's new branch manager. Welcome Angela!
Kristie announced that the Rosalia Branch building needs to
have the soffets removed and/or replaced. Money designated for
Rosalia in the Friends of the Library will assist with this
Kristie discussed the recent Supreme Court Ruling that I-747
is unconstitutional. The Governor and state government are
taking measures to reinstate the 1% as it was voter mandated.
Kristie reported that author Gregg Olsen visit to the Colfax
& Palouse schools in November went well. Upcoming events in
December are: · December 1st, 2 pm, Sydney Stevens and her new
book Dear Medora · December 5th, 1:30 pm, Tree of lights and
Remembrance · December 6th, 10-8, Santa Clause at the Library
The Winter Staff Luncheon will be December 12th at 1:00, with
a board meeting to follow at approximately 2:15.
