Board of Trustees Meeting
May 15, 2007
Present: Becky Dickerson, Leslee Miller, Jon Kehne, Teresa
Myott, Peggy Bryan, and Kristie Kirkpatrick.
Jon Kehne, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:00.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed. Becky made a
motion to accept the minutes, Leslee Miller seconded and the
Peggy reviewed the Financial Reports; Budget Report through
April 30, 2007, May Vouchers and Account Balances Reports. She
reviewed May vouchers #8560-8606 totaling $19,768.48. Kristie
reviewed circulation reports for April, noting that overall
circulation increased by 1200. Albion, Colton, Farmington,
Garfield, LaCrosse, St. John, Tekoa, Uniontown and Colfax.
Kristie announced that St. John is #1 in branch circulation this
month and for the entire year so far. Website visits increased
by 1300 and volunteer hours were up 40. Sadly, volunteer Carol
LaVerne will be moving. Attendance in children's programming is
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Kristie reported that Mark Dailey, an
Architect from Spokane will tour the library and Hamilton
building next week. Mark has remodeled libraries, as well as
designed newly constructed libraries. He will evaluate both
buildings and the potential options for us to pursue. Kristie
hopes to develop a solid plan before exploring funding
opportunities. A brief discussion followed.
Kristie announced recent grant awards:
· $10,000 Marketing Grant for
Summer Reading Promotion. Kevin Adair will tour the county
schools with Sheri in May promoting summer reading. Kevin is a
juggler, magician, hypnotist, stilt walker, author and
· $7,000 Everyone Reads the
Same Book Grant for Summer Reading Promotion. Every summer
reading participant will receive a bug book and The Science
Center will be featured in the summer programming.
· WCL is part of another
Everyone Reads The Deep Dark Grant with other libraries in the
region this fall. Four schools will be involved, as well as the
· Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation Grant for two new computer work stations, approx.
· $720 Libri
Grant for new children's books at the Colfax Branch
· Freedom to
Read Grant for 21 new books & Cd's at the St. John Branch
Kristie announced that the library supporters of the month
will go to Harold and Virginia Sauer, longtime members of the
Friends of Whitman County Library.
Kristie announced that Peggy received the WLA Merit Award for
Outstanding Performance in a Special Area at the WLA Conference
held in April and shared a brochure from that event.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19 at 4 p.m.
The board toured the Community Action apartments project in
Colfax with Dale Miller following the meeting.
With no further business, the Board adjourned at 4:30.
