Board of Trustees Meeting
March 27, 2007
Becky Dickerson, John Aune, Teresa Myott, Jon Kehne,
Peggy Bryan, and Kristie Kirkpatrick.
Kehne, board chair, called the meeting to order at 4:07.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed.
Becky made a motion to accept the minutes, John
Aune seconded and the motion carried.
The board wished Becky a happy birthday and presented her
with cake and a Friends of WCL cookbook. James and Don, the
library’s technology staff assisted in the lighting of the
introduced Daquarii Rock, who joined the meeting at 4:12.
Dacquarii, Project Access’s grant coordinator explained
the project’s goal to collaborate community education classes
and services for seniors throughout rural Whitman and Latah
counties. The grant
purchased books pertaining to seniors for WCL, Neill Public
Library and Latah County Library District.
Leslee Miller joined the meeting at 4:27.
A brief discussion of the grant followed.
reviewed the Financial Reports; Budget Report through February
28, 2007, March Vouchers and Account Balances Reports.
Kristie reviewed circulation reports for February, noting
that overall circulation was up nearly 5000.
Digital measures and Database activity continue to rise.
Colton, Farmington, Garfield, St. John and Uniontown had
increases in circulation. Endicott
and Malden saw sizeable decreases in circulation.
Kristie mentioned little progress has been made on the
elevator project. The
information she received at the Rural Library Retreat indicates
that we need to do an in-dept assessment of the project goals
and design before pursuing any further funding.
announced that the Library Supporter of the month of March was
Sara Thompson from Endicott.
Sara has made donations to WCL of her time, a TV with VCR
& DVD player, etc. Kristie
thanked and praised Sara for her contributions to the Endicott
branch. Angela Broeckel of Lacrosse was selected as April
Supporter of the Month.
presented an updated list of the Friends of WCL.
expressed regret that Marie Dynkoski, Palouse Branch Manager,
resigned. She took a position at the Pullman Chamber Office.
Marie has done a great job in the Palouse Library and
will be missed.
announced that Catalina Flores was recently hired for
circulation in Colfax. We’re
pleased to have Catalina join our staff.
and Becky discussed Library Legislative Day on March 8th.
They both felt their efforts were worthwhile and enjoyed
their visits with legislators.
Peggy discussed the WCL levy rate drop from
.0005 to .0004954 affecting the library’s income.
She discussed the impact on the library budget and that
the levy rate will continue to drop each year as a result of
Kristie announced that WCL has applied for
two One Book Grants for $10,000.
One project funds a countywide Summer Reading program for
2008 with the Palouse Science Center and giving a bug book to
every summer reader. The other project with “Everybody Reads the Same Book” in
collaboration with regional libraries to beef up the promotion
and number of author appearances.
Kristie discussed the Rural Library Retreat,
noting that Peggy, Sheri, Theresa Lautenslauger (Rosalia Branch
Manager) and Debbie Gilbertson (Garfield Branch Manager)
attended with her. The
retreat was sponsored by the Gates Foundation and included a
wonderful grant-writing workshop.
The board discussed having the next meeting
on Tuesday, April 24 following the Friends Appreciation Lunch at
noon. Leslee made a
motion that the meeting be changed and John seconded.
The motion passed and the next meeting will follow the
lunch at approximately 1:10 p.m.
